About Dr. Derek Simpson, Chiropractic Physician
Present Day
Doctor Derek Simpson is a chiropractic physician utilizing applied kinesiology to aid in diagnosis, and acupuncture, nutritional therapies, botanical medicine, and homeopathy in treatment. Dr. Derek is truly a whole health physician.
Dr. Derek is a National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) graduate of Chiropractic medicine (Doctor of Chiropractic, D.C.) and is currently obtaining his degree in Naturopathic medicine (Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, N.D.), also from NUHS.
He is a certified Professional Applied Kinesiologist (P.A.K.) and uses dynamic muscle testing as a way to help diagnose and treat his patients. He has received his 100 hour acupuncture certification and is currently being certified in Craniosacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute.
Dr. Derek uses supplementation, botanical medicine and homeopathy to help bring patients to a greater state of wellness. The Doctor believes that the best change that can occur in a patient’s healing process is determined by three factors:
1) The patient’s BEST interest;
2) The best-supported and available information from the latest treatments;
3) The doctor’s practice experience.
He knows that he cannot do everything on his own, for he is just a facilitator of the body’s natural ability to heal itself. In the end, he cares about your health and how he can best impact your life.
Early Life
Dr. Derek grew up a musician and an artist, first classically trained in voice with many years of private lessons for the piano, alto/baritone saxophone and guitar. As an artist he used media such as pencil, charcoal and acrylics to express his own creative awareness.
The doctor, being the second oldest of five, has had the opportunity to experience all angles of the family unit through all situations. With such a close-knit and diverse family, the doctor was able to develop many of his sensitivities to the innate qualities of those around him.
Further on into middle and high school, his zeal to serve his community for five years in a concession stand during the football games paid off in his college years where he earned a full-tuition private scholarship for community service. His studies in pre-medicine led him to desiring to become a trauma surgeon. Realizing that the fast-paced life was not for him, he decided to look for a better alternative; osteopathic medicine. Finally, knowing that he would be better suited for natural health care, Dr. Derek decided on becoming a primary alternative health care practitioner; thus his degree in Chiropractic medicine and present pursuit of a Naturopathic degree.
Dr. Derek’s developed sensitivities from a diverse life have allowed him to pursue the deeper characteristics of health and disease through observation and intuition. These have helped him to mature and develop patience that is beyond his own cohort. Many of his patients have said that his wisdom and patience extends beyond those in the same position.
Five (5) “D’s” of Health and Well-Being
Dr. Derek believes in the 5 D‘s of health and well-being. These 5 five Different things are the foundation to a Disciplined life. These five attributes are:
1) Diet
2) Dedication to exercise
3) Determined to adequate sleep
4) Discernment through meditation
5) Discipline to continually follow through successfully
The doctor is no stranger to failure and realizes that if we did not fail in our Determined Discoveries, we would not have the opportunity to rise to even greater height!

Interests and Hobbies
Being an avid ballroom dancer since 7th grade, the doctor is also able to get out and have a little of fun, but able to interact with many of Chicago’s finest dancing community. He focuses much of his attention on Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, and Charleston. The doctor can also proficiently Cha-Cha, Bachata, Merengue, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, and Two-Step. He is presently learning to master West Coast Swing and Salsa.
Interestingly enough, he is also learning how to crochet and knit. He feels that making things with his own hands with simple repetitive patterns allows him to meditate more deeply, release tension, and pass the time during periods of stress.
Aspirations
Dr. Simpson desires to continue his work as a medical missionary. His hope is to unite MDs, DOs, DCs, and NDs for the common goal of serving communities in the United States and abroad that lack necessary and sufficient medical care.
He feels God has placed him in Chicago, not just as a doctor, but as a teacher as well. Teaching the basic and clinical medical sciences as a medical school professor is a passion he has yet to fulfill. He knows the value of providing great patient care and teaching the future physicians of the world how to be the very best.
